Alt-folk duo from the British Isles crossing genre boundaries / Stars of Respect Festival 2024 return to Prague!
Originally from Ireland, singer Ríoghnach Connolly was born with the kind of talent that comes once in a generation. Her soulful but unspectacular delivery with a dive into folk ballads has earned her comparisons to the late Sandy Denny of Fairport Convention. Manchester's Stuart McCallum is a prominent figure in the progressive trans-genre scene. An acclaimed guitarist with versatile talents and an academic career, he has worked for many years in the Cinematic Orchestra and other projects. This atypical duo formed The Breath in 2016 with the aim of presenting British-Irish folk in a new light. Their concert was a surprise at Womex 2023, and a year later they wowed Czech audiences at Respect Festival in Prague. The fact that their albums are released by Peter Gabriel on his Real World label is a sign of their quality. Ríoghnach Connolly received a nomination for an Irish Radio Award and won the 2019 BBC Folk Singer of the Year poll, where the duo The Breath were nominated as Best Group.
