info Nigthwork and INSTINKT present: Indiana Dick & Anežka Česká (Agnes of Bohemia) Nightwork, a notable music group, produces not only a playful music but is also very well engaged in the political struggle. This word has an appalling sound even so many years after the fall of communism. We connect it with festivals of political songs in Sokolov and with other horrors, but this time I mean it in a good sense. We can see and hear these boys at protest-meetings, they make satirical audio clips, they comment on the political situation. When we were discussing our future common project they insisted on a political message. It was then long before parliament election in 2010 and the arrogance of the politicians was at the highest point. Give them their due, boys, I said. Finally we decided for a comic. The comic heroes are able to do extraordinary things, isn’t it right? But what things exactly? A quarrel started here. Nightwork thrust forward a sport-suit motive from the beginning. “Sport-suit should united Czech people and distinguish the good one from the bad one”. I did not get it at all. From the Czech perspective, the sport-suit is a sign of a coach potato and a petty bourgeois, so why it should give our nation the strength and unity? It took me a while to realize that the engagement of Nightwork has its limitations. Irony and exaggeration have priority. Let’s don some sport-suit and get out of the frying pan into the fire.
