info While the first written references about the villages in Horňácko are about 700 years old, the settlement of the area of recent Banát began in the beginning of the 19th century. The area of today Sedmihradsko belonged then under the Austria Hungarian Empire. At first the Czech people came to log timber, later they were guarding the boarders along the Danube. They must have get rid of the forests and to till fields full of stones. They kept this ability to be self-sufficient over the wars and Romania communism era. Farming and faith was the only thing they had for centuries. In that they did not differ from the people from the opposite of the Carpathian Mountains in Horňácko. There people lived until the twenties of last century also in some isolation before the railway came. Because of the near administrative and religious centres as Strážnice and Velehrad the music and songs were always part of their lives. Rough hands of farmers and woodmen transformed the melodies into specific musical performance which they combined with their straightforward poetics of their texts. These were some as their life-chronicles. This all passes from one generation to another until these days, but you really need to hear it for yourself… |
