His typical style of lighting (direct, flashing light, contained daylight) together with subdued colors provides Salim Issa with a portrait trademark of uniqueness, where he doesn’t distinguish between ordinary festival visitors and people from the music and art-music scenes (Vladimír Kokolia, Floex, Kid Loco…).We can credit his long-term friendship with Milan Cajs for his series of album covers for the group Tata Bojs (all of whose albums, with the exception of one, he designed). By contrast, in photographing members of the National Theater orchestra he managed to impress with pleasant civility, uncomplicated, loose arrangement and an acknowledgment of white space. At Akropolis Salim Issa is presented as a sensitive portraitist, with a sense for the creation of atmosphere, unafraid of passing by accepted stereotypes.
