info Manon meurt are masters of contrasts between quiet and loud passages, and their music is marked by the epic climaxes of their songs. Active since 2012, the current line-up features drummer Jiří Bendl, singer/guitarist/bassist Kateřina Elznicová, and guitarists Vojtěch Pejša and Kryštof Korčák. After their self-titled debut EP, their first full-length album MMXVIII (2018) was produced by the legendary Jan P. Muchow. The record was nominated for both the Czech Critics’ Choice Apollo Award and the Anděl Award in the Alternative & Electronic category. For their new album, the band once again teamed up with a strong producer personality – British musician and producer Eddie Stevens, known for his collaborations with Moloko, Zero 7, Róisín Murphy and Jana Kirschner. Having built their sound on the ruins of shoegaze and the influence of bands like Slowdive, Lush and Ride, Manon meurt now take a step forward, moving away from their original ’90s inspirations. Their new record Unravel (Minority Records, 2024) surprises with the natural fluidity of blending genres – from trip hop to grunge, through ambient folk and into the swirling chaos of dream pop. fumar mata! are an emerging Prague-based formation attracting a new generation of enthusiasts, inviting them into the world of neo-psychedelia. The band was born in the basement of the Spoko café, where pandemic-worn adolescents retreated to the drawn-out melodies of a battered Jolana guitar. From those cellar beginnings they moved increasingly into Prague’s notorious clubs and bars, where ever-growing crowds came to see them. Their raw energy and dreamy psychedelia transform live into loud and hypnotic experiences – at once captivating and elusive. NOIX balance between indie rock and shoegaze, and after several years of searching for their sound, they released their debut album Fragile Skies in 2024. Formed around 2020, the band first explored darker psychedelic waters, and with the arrival of bassist Vladimir Dunaytsev (of Cold Venus Revisited) their sound expanded with synths and more dance-inducing rhythms. Their live shows are said to transport audiences into another universe. Fragile Skies features seven tracks reflecting inspiration from nightlife as well as a deep connection with nature – a collection of songs full of dreamy vocals, psychedelic guitar riffs and lush synth layers, weaving into a shimmering melancholy that speaks of the bittersweetness of existence and surrender to honesty and emotion. |
