info

The distinctive multi-genre pianist and composer Vojtěch Procházka returns to his jazz roots and revives the classic piano trio format.

He draws inspiration both from past masters of the form—such as Bud Powell, Erroll Garner, and Jaki Byard—and from contemporary greats and iconoclasts like Jason Moran, Ethan Iverson, and Sullivan Fortner.

Vojtěch Procházka (b. 1981) is a pianist, composer, and improviser whose work spans jazz and free improvisation. He studied piano, composition, and North Indian classical music in Oslo, Paris, and Prague. He is a co-founder of the band Vertigo, with which he has won three Czech Music Academy Awards (Golden Angel), and he regularly collaborates with prominent figures of both the Czech and international music scenes—including Harpreet Bansal, Sisa Feher (KHI), Michaela Antalová (Mikoo), Luboš Soukup (Freetown Quartet), Monika Načeva, and Lucie Páchová (Talaqpo).

Procházka is also active in composing for film and theatre (Handa Gote, Josef Tuka, Naivní divadlo Liberec, Alfa Theatre Plzeň, among others) and has been performing live accompaniment for silent films for over twenty years. In the realm of improvised music, he is involved in projects such as Krekso, PIO, and the now-defunct Bergljot. He also plays harmonium in the brass band FSKC Drancy.

He teaches at the Jazz Department of HAMU and at New York University in Prague.
