The Femme Fatale concert series brings to Prague one of the most distinctive figures of contemporary post-classical music. Icelandic pianist and composer Eydís Evensen returns to Palác Akropolis on April 29 to present her brand-new album Oceanic Mirror to Czech audiences.

Eydís Evensen is among the most remarkable Icelandic musical exports of recent years. Although classically trained, her work is clearly guided by emotion and instinct. She creates deeply evocative soundscapes on the border of modern classical music, ambient minimalism and cinematic composition. Her music is rooted as much in technique as in feeling – it is a form of expression that not only speaks, but also “listens”.

She comes from the windy north of Iceland, from the small town of Blönduós, where the harsh landscape shapes everyday life. She composed her first piece at the age of seven during a fierce snowstorm, an experience that symbolically foreshadowed her musical language: beauty in fragility, movement born from silence, and a profound connection with nature.

Her debut album Bylur (Sony XXIM Records, 2021) – named after the Icelandic word for “snowstorm” – is an intimate collection of piano compositions and string arrangements tracing her journey from childhood to adulthood. Her follow-up album The Light (2023) expanded her sound to include choral elements, electronics and, for the first time, her own voice.

On the new record Oceanic Mirror, Eydís Evensen further deepens her signature sound while opening it to new influences. The album was created in close collaboration with prominent figures from the Icelandic and Nordic scenes, most notably Janus Rasmussen (Kiasmos), whose sense for electronic texture and minimalist beats brings a subtle pulsating energy to the recording. The album thus connects piano intimacy with gently ambient electronics and new sonic landscapes born from the dialogue between the sensitivity of Eydís Evensen and Rasmussen’s precise electronic craftsmanship.

The album is also enriched by other Icelandic musicians and arrangers who helped shape an organic, deeply atmospheric whole. Oceanic Mirror is therefore Eydís Evensen’s most complex and daring project to date – a recording that retains her characteristic intimacy while expanding her world into new depths.

The Concert Experience Her performances are renowned for their immersive and quiet intensity. Eydís creates a space in which music becomes not only something to listen to, but a shared experience – concerts that are intimate, deeply atmospheric and always unique, shaped by the place and the energy of the audience.

Media responses: “Few artists can so naturally pluck at the strings of your heart and carry your emotions from joy to sorrow and back again as Eydís Evensen.” – Wonderland Magazine “A revolutionary force in classical music.” – The Line Of Best Fit

The event is organised by 8PM promotion as part of the Femme Fatale concert series. The event partners are MHMP and MKČR.
