The evening brings together two distinct yet complementary approaches to contemporary jazz: the collective force of a full band and the focused dialogue of two voices. French group OZMA present their new album The Day We Decided to Live at Night, while Czech duo Jirucha / Janoušek open the night with an intimate but energetic trombone conversation.

After five years of studio silence, OZMA return with an album that marks a clear turning point in their story. Drummer and composer Stéphane Scharlé moves towards a more personal artistic direction without abandoning the band’s collective core. On the contrary, this is their most collaborative record to date. Alongside long-time bassist Édouard Séro-Guillaume, a new generation of musicians reshapes the sound, with keyboards replacing trombone and a broader, more cinematic palette emerging.

The Day We Decided to Live at Night is conceived as a studio album of concise, highly crafted pieces. Rather than live-driven spontaneity, it focuses on tension, atmosphere and inner movement. Jazz blends naturally with rock, metal energy, electronic textures and influences from African and Middle Eastern music. Love and rebellion form the album’s emotional backbone, expressed not through virtuoso display but through a calm intensity – like playing from the eye of the storm while the music itself becomes the tempest.

Opening the evening, Jirucha / Janoušek offer a compact yet vivid dialogue between two trombones. Their music balances precision and improvisation, subtle humour and sonic openness. It draws attention to an instrument often heard but rarely truly listened to, resulting in a focused, contemporary performance with a clear artistic voice and no unnecessary gestures.
