The American electronic multi-instrumentalist, singer, producer, and
songwriter Baths, whose real name is Will Wiesenfeld, will return to Prague
after seven years. On Thursday, May 11, he will perform at Palác Akropolis,
presenting his new, fourth studio album, Gut, released on February 21 under
the label Basement’s Basement. This marks his first studio release in eight
years since Romaplasm. Baths is considered a leading figure in genres such as
chillwave, bedroom pop, and lo-fi electronics.
The new album Gut contains eleven tracks, developed during the
COVID-19 pandemic and completed in April 2022. Baths describes the album as
an expression of raw emotions, capturing their authenticity through immediacy.
“Gut is about understanding my feelings, not psychoanalyzing them,” he
explained. The album draws inspiration from harder music genres like post-punk
and noise, as evident in the standout single Sea of Men. This track is
accompanied by a minimalist music video, directed by Baths himself, where he
portrays all the band members.
According to theneedledrop.com, the album explores themes such as sex,
sexuality, desire, relationships, and self-doubt. It offers a richer sound than
his previous works, involving more contributions from other musicians and
presenting Wiesenfeld as a dynamic frontman with his guitar.
Baths has been creating music for over 15 years, maintaining a
philosophy that his work should remain as personal as possible. Most of his
songs are crafted in his home studio. Beyond his work as Baths, he has released
several projects under the alias Geotic, the soundtrack for Netflix’s Bee
and PuppyCat, music for the documentary Queer Japan, and for the feature film
Big Boys.
The Prague concert is organized by 10:15 Entertainment and promises a unique
musical experience blending intimacy with dynamic performance.
