The memorable line-up of the famous London pianist Neil Cowley with their fusion of jazz, contemporary artistic music and ambient electronics for the first time in Prague!

The Neil Cowley Trio is definitely not a typical jazz trio. The dazzling British composer and pianist and his bandmates create deeply compelling and haunting music that is at once poetic and fragile, grand and sublime, and unbridled and wild. Referencing Claude Debussy and Steve Reich, as well as Spiritualized and Arcade Fire, it is powerful enough to completely subvert conventional perceptions of the genre. The trio, known for their unique live performances that are not lacking in debauchery or British sense of humour, have toured the world and appeared at the most respected jazz festivals (most recently in our country last year as part of JazzFestBrno).

The very first album Displaced won the BBC Jazz Award for Best Album in 2007. Five years later, The Face of Mount Molehill won the Jazz FM Award for Best British Jazz Record of the Year. The concept album Spacebound Apes (2016) garnered rave reviews across prestigious media. The Neil Cowley Trio comes to Prague with their fresh album Entity (2024).

A classically trained pianist and composer with crossovers into tasteful pop and R&B (he has worked with singers such as Adele, Birdy and Emeli Sandé), he disbanded the original Cowley Trio in 2017. To the chagrin of many fans, he managed to create a cult status in our country. However, after years on the solo track and „collaborating with virtual entities“, i.e. electronics, Cowley has grown nostalgic for playing in a trio and human musician interaction in general. And he missed specific people, too. He missed drummer Evan Jenkins, who played on the trio's first album Displaced (2006), and Rex Horan, who replaced the original double bassist Richard Sadler during the period of The Face Of Mount Molehill (2011). This line-up, with whom he recorded the new album Entity last year, will be presented to the Prague audience for the first time.

Pianist and composer Neil Cowley showed his talent at the age of ten when he played Shostakovich's Piano Concerto and later even studied at the Royal Academy in London. But as a teenager he gave up on a career in classical music. He entered the world of r'n'b, soul, funk and began working with the most successful musicians of the time. Among others, he was in the bands Brand New Heavies and Zero 7. He has also established himself as a leading pianist for soul and pop projects that require jazz technique and rhythmic flexibility. It is he who sits at the piano on singer Adele's tracks on her first two albums, for which she won a total of eight Grammy Awards and made him literally the most listened-to pianist on the planet. In 2005 he returned to his first love – the piano – and founded the Neil Cowley Trio. Their dynamic and charged music, which blends jazz with rock poetics, immediately propelled them to the forefront of the new British post-jazz wave. Their music is defined by catchy melodies, powerful riffs and deviously frolicsome passages mixed with piercing, delicate passages, turning the concept of the jazz piano trio on its head.

Event is promoted by Rachot Production.
