Sunflower quartet The sunny side of jazz FRANCESCA CORRIAS – Voice, Flute, Loop Station SANDRO MURA – Piano FILIPPO MUNDULA – Double Bass PIERPAOLO FRAILIS – Drums FRATTALE – Sunflower quartet – produced by Michele Palmas for S’ardmusic and Jazz in Sardegna Sunflower is a quartet made up of Francesca Corrias (voice, flute, glockenspiel and Loop Station), Sandro Mura (piano), Filippo Mundula (double bass), and Pierpaolo Frailis (drums). The sun of Cagliari saw the birth of this young quartet in the summer 2005, and few years later, the beginning of its discography with its first appearances on the major festival stages of Sardinia such as Berchidda’s Time in Jazz directed by Paolo Fresu and Cagliari’s European Jazz Expo, followed by great performances in famous and prestigious stages such as La Casa del Jazz in Rome and The JazzScene in Oslo. It is a Cagliaritan cheerfulness between jazz, swing and samba, and an unconditional love for jazz in their repertoire entitled “Frattale” Songs in Italian, English and Portuguese smoothly moves with freshness and agility from swing to samba, jazz, electro, bossa nova, always creating new atmospheres, either energetic, or delicate and intimate as in Na minha casa, Epiphany, or even melancholic as in Angelica. Original pieces composed and performed by the wonderful “fab four sunflowers” leaded by the warm, deep and charming voice of Francesca supported by great and talented musicians Sandro, Filippo and Pierpaolo it is the urban face of Mediterranean music in which cohabits exciting jazz atmosphere from Latin-American influences, between read scores and improvisations. |
