Jiří Syrovátka started his art career as a writer. He held a vast interview with Jan Saudek in the beginning of 90ies in the Playboy CS Edition journal team. He was interested how this master of stylized photography lives and works. Syrovátka then published some interesting books – among others a grotesque Nezapadá slunce nad Zapadákovem, novel Výkřiky v Moři ticha or short texts O Helmutovi a jeho stříkačce. He was drawn to the secrecy of movies. He prepared a few musical spots for the Czech TV at the turn of the century (f.e. essays about Petr Piňos and Ota Petřina) and also an hour-long movie Praha Anima about mystery of the magical city on Vltava. Almost after 20 years since the memorable interview with Jan Sadek Jiří Syrovátka has started his photographic adventure and to add more to it he starts with experimental painting. He combines both disciplines which brings inspirational consequences. The set of eleven pictures, prepared especially for Palác Akropolis, is called simply METAL. Photographs with metallic surface reflect our time which is characterised by hard relationships, rough emotions and shiny commercial gilding. He tries to show us that we are actually human beings with heart and soul and with a sky above us.
