info United Islands 2009 is an original musical festival that rains over the historical center of Prague on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th of June. About hundred Czech as well as many European and world artists will perform on Vltava river islands and its riverbanks. Musical program will be supported by supplementary program for a whole family. The entrance to all sections of the festival is free. Festival is the largest open-air event in the city of Prague. It has a five-year tradition. In the first year 2004 it celebrated the widest EU enlargement in history and the joining of the Czech Republic into the EU. In 2009 it became one of the main cultural events of the Czech presidency and official closing celebration. On Thursday 18th of June a Club night will precede the open-air events of the next day. It simultaneously takes place at 15 Prague music clubs – again for free. In each club will be presented young bands, chosen by well known personalities: Jan Vedral (journalist, MF Dnes daily newspaper), Saša Michailidis (Radio 1), Ondřej Formánek (journalist, Reflex journal), Jan P. Muchow (musician, producent), Mardoša (musician, Tata Bojs band). Events on the islands start on Friday noon. The two main stages will be placed on Střelecký Island in the very heart of Prague city. The others are at Kampa – Malá Strana, Slovanský Island, Dětský Island, Mánes house and piazette of National Theatre. Concerts will be accompanied by other cultural events, shops, shows and refreshment points on the riverbanks Masarykovo and Janáčkovo nábřeží. The festival is organized together with Prague municipal authority and under the auspices of the vice chairman for European affairs and a member of the Government Alexandr Vondra, Lord Mayor of Prague Pavel Bém, and a member of the European parliament, Jan Zahradil.
